Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has applauded the sheer quality and persistence of James Milner after the difference he made a week ago in the clash with Liecester City.
With Manchester City scheduled to play 24 hours after the match against the Foxes, Liverpool had to earn all of the three points at all costs last Saturday.
Sadio Mane gave the Reds a 1-0 lead in the first half of the game and it appeared to be another fairly comfortable win on the way for Reds until Leicester City somehow found an equalizing goal in the second half.
After the Foxes struck late in the game, Liverpool were desperately searching for a winning goal which proved to be very vital in the context of the weekend’s results.
The man who stepped up to dispatch the winning goal was James Milner, who has proven to be ever so reliable from the penalty spot.
And even after seeing his side lose in agonizing fashion, Brendan Rodgers was full of praise for Milner.
“He was brilliant. Then you see what he has done. He has played at left-back, he has played in midfield. He is just a top class professional and he has done absolutely brilliant for the club,” said Rodgers, as per the Liverpool Echo
“And I dreaded the penalty! Knowing he is on the pitch… He is very cool and calm – and he doesn’t miss. He tucked it away, even with that pressure.”
