Defender reveals transfer to Liverpool ‘could happen’, speaks on teaming up with Klopp’s star man

Ajax centre back Matthijs de Ligt has fueled rumours linking him to Liverpool after admitting that a move to Anfield is a possibility in the summer.

The 19-year old is one of the brightest prospects in world football and has been linked with the biggest names in Europe including Barcelona and Arsenal.

De Ligt is having another phenomenal season with Ajax and has played a massive role in the Dutch side’s Champions League humiliation of defending champions Real Madrid. De Ligt’s performances over the last 2 seasons have earned him the skipper’s armband at Ajax making him the youngest player to captain the club in history.

The teenager expressed his admiration for fellow Dutchman Virgil van Dijk and was quoted saying “Virgil is a player who has experience in the top leagues. Of course you want to learn from him. It’s very helpful to play next to him in the Dutch team.”

When asked if he might join Van Dijk at Anfield, he added: ‘It could happen. He plays for Liverpool, a good club, but I’m not focused on them.”

De Ligt would be a phenomenal addition to the Liverpool squad but could potentially cost the same amount as van Dijk especially with teammate Frenkie de Jong moving to Barcelona for  75 million.
