According to BBC pundit Garth Crooks, Liverpool could face the frightening possibility of La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona coming in for their star defender Virgil van Dijk if they fail to win the league this season.
Crooks named the Dutch defensive rock in his team of the week after an outstanding performance in the Merseyside derby at the weekend.
Van Dijk signed for Liverpool in December 2017 for a world record fee from Southampton and has since changed Liverpool’s fortunes at the back.
“The problem for Liverpool is simply this; if they don’t win the title this season the chances are Real Madrid or Barcelona will come knocking – probably both. And few turn them down.” Cooks wrote on BBC
The Reds boast one of the best defenses in the league, having conceded just 15 goals so far in the Premier League and the 27-year old has been an integral part of that feat.
Crooks claims that the Spanish giants could potentially come in with bids for the van Dijk in the summer and very few players turn them down.
The Anfield faithful will be furious if the club decides to cash in on their star man as Liverpool may face a lot of problems in their future pursuit of silverware.
