Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has explained why he has chosen Liverpool shot-stopper Alisson Becker as the ‘player to watch’ in the Premier League this season.
The Brazilian goalkeeper moved to Anfield during the summer as a replacement for Loris Karius who was at fault for two of the goals conceded in the Champions League final against Real Madrid.
During this week’s segment of Sky Sports’ ‘Monday Night Football’, Gary Neville along with former Red Jamie Carragher, was asked to pick out the player whom he felt was the one to watch during the course of the season.
Neville surprisingly chose Alisson as the man to keep an eye on and he has explained why the Brazilian is his choice.
“At the end of last season when Jurgen Klopp said he was going to keep faith with the two goalkeepers he had, I thought it was strange,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“I didn’t see how that could happen if Liverpool were going to genuinely challenge for the title.
“I watched Alisson and he looked good with his feet, though a few things came off him from parrying.
“He passed his first test against Crystal Palace and I’m not necessarily looking forward to watching him, but I chose him in terms of answering the questions that need to be answered in a new league.”
