Former Liverpool star Dirk Kuyt has shared his views on how Georginio Wijnaldum has reacted following the manager’s decision to withdraw him from the starting eleven in recent games.
Jurgen Klopp has kept his options very open this season, choosing to rotate his players whenever necessary as the Reds continue to battle for their first league title in nearly three decades.
The Liverpool boss still has a number of major tactical decisions to make before the season comes to an end and it is very likely that some fans will judge his moves based on whether the club wins some silverware this year or not.
The midfield is an area where Klopp has often chosen to rotate his players this season and his most recent move has seen him remove Georginio Wijnaldum from the starting line-up.
Having played well this season, the Dutchman is likely to have been dissatisfied with the boss’ decision and Kuyt has admitted that he could see Wijnaldum’s disappointment at being dropped even though the midfielder has acted in a professional manner nonetheless.
“What I also like is the fantastic mentality of Georginio Wijnaldum. Before the kick-off I saw his eyes.” Kuyt said, writing in a column for Dutch outlet De Telegraaf
“You felt the disappointment that he was not playing, but when you see how professional he was before, during and after the game, you get more admiration for him. That’s how you should be a pro.”
