BBC pundit Garth Cooks has really raved about Liverpool defender Joel Matip after his display in the win over Cardiff City on Sunday.
The Reds have done incredibly well to remain in the race for the Premier League title with only three games now left in the season.
Liverpool’s ability to stay in the battle for the title has been mostly attributed to how the team has improved defensively this season.
Last term, the Reds were known for scoring a lot but conceding many goals at the other end as well as they failed to maintain a serious challenge for the league.
Joel Matip has definitely played his part in Liverpool’s surge for the title this year and his display against Cardiff City was another reminder.
It was a performance which saw him receive great praise from BBC pundit Garth Crooks.
“I don’t normally look beyond Virgil van Dijk in Liverpool’s back four when clean sheets have been maintained and matches won, but on this occasion I think I have to.” Crooks said on BBC
“Joel Matip was superb against Cardiff and overshadowed even the brilliant Van Dijk. Matip’s defending has been much more considered since the arrival of the Dutchman – but it’s the quality of his distribution that has left me speechless.”
