Liverpool completed the signing of Fabinho from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco in the summer for a reported £43.7 million.
The Brazilian had caught the eye of a number of top clubs after a brilliant season with Monaco and has revealed that he had an offer from Liverpool’s rivals, Manchester United.
Jose Mourinho was desperate to sign a defensive midfielder in the summer and Fabinho was on top of his shopping list.
However, the 25-year old reveals that he rejected the Red Devils’ approach after being convinced by fellow Brazilian Roberto Firmino.
Fabinho revealed that he spoke to the Liverpool forward to know more about the club and the city and Firmino’s positive comments helped make his mind up.
He was quoted as saying:
“Bobby (Firmino) played an important role in me coming here. Before coming here, I’d spoken to him about what it’s like at the club and what the city is like as well as the good areas to live in.
“It’s always good to have compatriots with you when you join a new club, so my friendship with him has been important.”
Fabinho’s recent performances for Jurgen Klopp’s side has been nothing short of brilliant and Liverpool fans will be delighted with agent Bobby’s work to help bring his compatriot to Anfield.
