Report: 29-year-old is open to completing move to Liverpool this summer

With Simon Mignolet being granted his wish to leave the club (Standard), Jurgen Klopp will begin to look for someone who is willing to move to Anfield as a back-up for first-choice goalkeeper Alisson.

Klopp signed the Brazilian from AS Roma last summer and his understudy, Mignolet, is likely to seek a new club to play for after spending the entirety of last season on the bench.

That has prompted the Liverpool boss to show an interest in signing a new back-up goalkeeper and Southampton keeper Alex McCarthy has been thrown into the hat as a result.

As per the Standard, the 29-year-old is open to joining Liverpool this summer, if ‘all the pieces for a switch to Anfield fall into place’.

McCarthy is no longer the number one goalkeeper for the Saints, and he seems to be willing to settle for a side-piece role at Liverpool.

The Standard’s report claims that Liverpool were tracking the Englishman before his move to Southampton three years ago and the player himself now appears to be keen on an Anfield switch.
