Alan Shearer insists he doesn’t agree with claims made about Liverpool

Former Premier League star and current BBC pundit Alan Shearer has backed Liverpool to defy the odds and claim more glory than some may expect them to do this season.

Jurgen Klopp made a calm promise when he moved to the club nearly five years ago that he would like to guide the team towards the Premier League title within three or four years.

After reaching the final of the Champions League where they were undeservedly beaten by Real Madrid last season, Liverpool are back in the mix for major glory this year.

As it stands, the Reds are very much in the running for their first league title in almost three decades of football.

Even though Liverpool are in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, where they have the upper hand over FC Porto, some people have completely ignored the club’s chances of completing a famous double this season.

That is where Alan Shearer disagrees, and the ex-Newcastle star says the Reds have every reason to count themselves in the race to win the Champions League along with the league title this term.

“Liverpool are challenging on two fronts — and proving lots of people wrong in the process.” Shearer wrote in his column for the Sun.

“I never agreed with the notion that Jurgen Klopp should forget about the Champions League this season and focus fully on winning the Premier League.

“And they are showing those critics up by having a great time in both competitions. Liverpool must make sure they don’t slip up — and I’m confident they won’t.”
