Lille’s head coach Gerard Lopez has revealed that Liverpool have indeed spoken to Nicolas Pepe over a possible move to the Premier League for the striker this summer.
Jurgen Klopp did not end last season with his side looking like it was in desperate need of a striker, but the exit of Daniel Sturridge has made room for a new goalscorer to potentially move to Anfield.
Pepe, who is valued at £70m (Daily Star), is a player on the radar of various clubs across Europe after a wonderful season in France last term.
Liverpool are yet to make any major signings this summer, despite the great revenue the club gained from winning the UEFA Champions League last season.
Even though Klopp has remained very tight-lipped about any deals to sign new players, it now looks as though the Reds have indeed made an approach to sign Pepe.
According to the 24-year-old’s manager Gerard Lopez, the Reds have indeed contacted the striker’s agent about a move.
The Lille boss told RMC Sport: “I know there have been discussions with the player, not with us as a club, Liverpool has players in those positions, and I read that maybe there were players who could leave, or not.
“I am not particularly focused on Liverpool. But it is true that there have been discussions with agents.”
