Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has spoken about the race for the Premier League title as we get ready for the final stretch of what has been a long season.
Liverpool started the campaign with aspirations of merely maintaining a place in the top four of the league.
But a brilliant start which saw the Reds take until December to taste their first defeat of the league season meant Liverpool were very much contenders for the title.
Klopp’s men have had chances to pull away from Manchester City but draws have done a lot of damage to the team’s hopes of creating a gap between themselves and Pep Guardiola’s side.
Liverpool are back on top of the league table after the 2-1 win over Fulham last Sunday but Manchester City have a game in hand.
Carragher was asked about his thoughts on the title race after playing in the charity game at Anfield and he admitted that Liverpool are not the favourites.
“It’s very tight,” he said of the title race.
“City are in pole position. I still think City are big favourites as they’ve been there before and they have got that lead.
“But Liverpool are in a decent position as well. The real run-in starts now once this international break is out of the way. There are seven games left and it’s going to be exciting.
“Will there be bumps in the road? None I hope, hopefully there are a few for City.
“I think both teams will drop points and I expect it to go right to the wire. It’s going to be a great end to the season, really exciting. It’s been a few years since we’ve had a finish like that and it’s just great that Liverpool are involved.
“It’s exciting as it’s not just the Premier League Liverpool are going for, it’s the Champions League as well. Credit to the manager and the players for putting themselves in a great position.”
