Former Anfield star urges Man City to sign this Liverpool player

Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has urged Pep Guardiola and Manchester City to sign Virgil van Dijk this summer.

Collymore wrote on his column in the Mirror that he would offer £150 million plus John Stones and Nicolas Ottamendi for the Dutchman if he was in Guardiola’s shoes.

The remarks came after an outstanding display by van Dijk against Everton in the Merseyside derby on Sunday. Liverpool’s 0-0 draw at Goodison Park meant that Manchester City stayed on top of the Premier League, 1 points ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Collymore wrote ‘Van Dijk is one of those incredibly gifted athletes and would make any defence on Planet Earth significantly better. And if City want to become the dominant force they say they want to, then going all out for him would be a no-brainer.

Collymore further went on to compare the Dutchman to former Manchester United centre back Rio Ferdinand and commended his ability to sense and deal with danger. Collymore also claimed that van Dijk has the ability to be on the same level as Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos if he were to win as many titles as the Spaniard.

However, van Dijk is under contract at Liverpool until the summer of 2023 and it would take a lot more than the £150 million plus 2 players that Collymore suggested, for Liverpool to even consider selling him.
