‘He’s going to be a top player’: Carragher drools over possible Liverpool addition

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has raved about the talent which Reds target Matthijs de Ligt is, after the defender featured in the Nations League clash with England on Thursday night.

Carragher himself was a wonderful defender for the club during his playing days and he retired six years ago as one of greatest skippers at Anfield over the last decade or so.

In his absence, Liverpool were not spoilt with too many choices of great defenders to choose from but after the addition of Virgil van Dijk last year, things appear to be back in the right direction.

Van Dijk will still need a very reliable partner at centre-back if the Reds have ambitions to do more than they achieved last season and that is why Liverpool have pursued the services of De Ligt, as per Spanish outlet Sport.

Jamie Carragher, speaking on Thursday, as relayed by the Daily Star, showed that he really is a big fan of the young Dutch defender who scored against England.

“You look at De Ligt and, for me, it’s almost a guarantee he’s going to be a top player. He’s a man.” the former Liverpool star said

“It’s unbelievable what De Ligt is doing at 19-years-old. The performances we saw him give in the Champions League were outstanding.”
