Last month, Liverpool lost one of the club’s most talented youngsters to Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon, right before the start of this summer’s pre-season tour.
Jurgen Klopp has often been keen on grooming youngsters at the club, but the Liverpool boss did not stand in the way of Rafa Camacho when an opportunity to leave Anfield arrived.
The 19-year-old winger, who did make his first appearance for the Liverpool first-team during last season, had only a year left on his contract at the club at the time of his exit.
But Camacho has revealed that he did not leave the club on bad terms, especially after receiving encouragement from Klopp over the decision to say goodbye.
“I spoke to him in December, told him I had a chance to come back [to Sporting]. He said he knew but at that moment he didn’t want to let me go, because I was part of Liverpool’s plans.” Camacho said via Sport Witness
“Before the summer I spoke to him again [and] told him that I wanted to go back to grow as a professional and he told me it was a great idea, that this would be the best club I could go to and that if I worked I would have my chance.”
