Klopp keen on signing 25-year-old as new partner for Van Dijk

According to reports, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is keen on signing Matthias Ginter from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer.

The Reds boss knows the German centre-back very well, having signed him when he was in charge of Borussia Dortmund.

The report claims that Klopp isn’t convinced with the performances of Joel Matip this season and is in the hunt for a replacement for the Cameroonian.

Klopp’s preferred option next to his number one man Virgil van Dijk is youngster Joe Gomez. But a long term injury to Gomez has forced the Liverpool manager to play the likes of Dejan Lovren and Matip in centre-back.

Ginter has over 200 senior appearances in German football with Freiburg, Dortmund and current club Borussia Monchengladbach. The 26-year old’s understanding of Klopp’s requirements in his system is said to be the main reason why the Liverpool boss wants him.

Ginter is under contract at Borussia Monchengladbach until the summer of 2021 and the World Cup winner will certainly not come cheap in the summer.
