Klopp gives hint of dropping players for Saturday’s match

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hinted that he might have no option but to drop some players and rotate his squad for the match against Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Reds thrashed Southampton 3-0 at home last weekend to extend their perfect start to the season to six wins in a row as they climbed above Chelsea to the top of the league table.

However, it was the Blues who halted Liverpool’s winning run in all competitions on Wednesday as two late goals from the visiting side saw them come back from a goal down to beat Klopp’s men 2-1 in the League Cup.

The Liverpool manager decided to make changes to his starting line-up from the weekend for the game against Chelsea at Anfield, with players like Alberto Moreno and Simon Mignolet receiving a rare opportunity to play.

But when asked about how he felt about the possibility of retaining some of the players who started on Wednesday in the line-up for Saturday, Klopp hinted that changes will have to be made due to various reasons, including fitness.

“Let me say it like this: hopefully they don’t have to.” Klopp responded when asked about the possibility of the players who came into the team retaining their places on Saturday.

“It was very intense. A few of the players who were not involved tonight are not 100 per cent fit, so we will see what we do. But it would be cool if we could make these changes again because not playing for a long time and then playing these 95, 96, 97 minutes and then playing three days later again would, of course, not be pure joy. We have to see. But they did well, that’s good.”
