According to the Guardian, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to return this week as Liverpool’s under-23 side take on Derby. After making the big money move from Arsenal at the start of last season, Oxlade-Chamberlain made 32 appearances for the Reds before damaging his cruciate ligament in the Champions League last April.
Liverpool’s medical staff initially feared that the 25-year-old would miss the entirety of this campaign but after making significant progress in rehabilitation, the former Southampton man is set to make a comeback this week.
Liverpool have had problems with creativity in midfield this season and that has been evident in their recent goalless draws against rivals Manchester United and Everton.
The Reds are now in second place in the league due to four dropped points against the pair as they face the tough task of chasing the defending champions.
The return of Oxlade-Chamberlain for the final few games of the season will be a boost for Jurgen Klopp, who is hoping to win some sort of silverware this season.
