Liverpool have heard back from Sporting Lisbon after submitting an offer to sign their much-coveted midfielder Bruno Fernandes this summer, but the Reds will have to push harder to secure their target.
Manager Jurgen Klopp admitted to the media this week that he would not be reluctant to splash the cash if or when necessary, since rival clubs like Manchester City are bound to be active in the transfer market again.
After making an offer of £40m to sign Fernandes, the Reds have seen Sporting Lisbon reject their bid, according to a report by the Daily Star.
Liverpool were the first club to submit an official offer for the 24-year-old, who won the Nations League with the Portuguese national team earlier this month.
After turning down the Reds’ bid, Sporting Lisbon are believed to be holding out for a £62m offer, following the midfielder’s spectacular season which saw him rack up a total of 50 goals and assists.
