Liverpool launch £72m bid to sign 22-goal star, wanted by Klopp

Daniel Sturridge’s departure seems to have convinced Jurgen Klopp into shopping for an extra attacker and with another title tilt in mind for next season, that is the right thing to do.

Liverpool are reported to have made an official offer for Lille winger Nicolas Pepe with Klopp said to be a ‘big fan’ of the player.

French source Le10Sport have claimed that the Reds have made a formal bid for the capture of Pepe, as they look to shrugg off the challenge of Manchester United and Bayern Munich in the transfer battle.

Liverpool are regarded as one of the leading suitors in the race to sign the Ivory Coast international, who was in high-scoring form in Ligue 1 last term as he racked up 22 goals for his side.

Lille’s valuation of Pepe is understood to be around €80million (£72m), and it is being reported that Liverpool have made a formal offer to match that asking price.

It is worth remembering that the club came fairly close to another recruit from Ligue 1 last year as they went after Lyon star Nabil Fekir, who ended up remaining in France.
