Liverpool may have lost the top spot in the Premier League table on Wednesday evening but it was not all bad news for the Reds in the title race going forward.
Manchester City have been remarkably tough to compete against in the race for the Premier League title, having won every game ever since they climbed a point above the Reds in the table a few weeks ago.
But Manchester City’s 2-0 win over relegation battlers Cardiff City on Wednesday night saw them suffer an injury blow as key defender Oleksandr Zinchenko succumbed to a hamstring injury after just 18 minutes of action at the Etihad stadium.
The young shot-stopper has maintained his spot in the Manchester City defence in recent months after injuries to Benjamin Mendy and Fabian Delph, having lost just one of his 37 appearances for the Blues following his move from FC Ufa almost three years ago.
Zinchenko’s injury, as reported by FourFourTwo, will be a boost for Liverpool as it now leaves City looking weaker at the back heading into the run-in to the season.
