Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has urged the club to beat United and Chelsea in the race to sign Barcelona misfit Phillipe Coutinho this summer.
There will be a chance for the Reds to lift their sixth European title when they face Tottenham Hotspur in the final of the Champions League next weekend.
Liverpool will have all of their focus on the final of the competition for now but the fact that the transfer window has opened again has presented Jurgen Klopp with a new opportunity to plan out his squad for the future.
The Reds’ boss has spent the money very well over the last year, having signed the likes of Van Dijk and Alisson, who have tremendously improved the Liverpool squad.
Phillipe Coutinho’s departure to Barcelona handed the club a huge profit of £142million which was reinvested wisely in the transfer market.
With the Brazilian star failing to impress the Camp Nou crowd this season, there have been rumours of a move back to England with Chelsea and United (Metro) interested in his services.
But Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has urged the Reds to make a move to bring back Coutinho instead.
“I wouldn’t say I would be actively going to get him, but if there was a possibility of bringing Coutinho back for decent money, and Barca wanted to cut their losses a little bit because it hasn’t worked out, then I’d do that,” Carragher said, as quoted by Football365
“Would he be welcomed back? I’m not sure. But he should be. I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t be. We lack that player in the squad. We have it in [Adam] Lallana and [Xherdan] Shaqiri, but this is a different level of player.
“It’s the one thing Man City have on us, they have Bernardo Silva, David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne. We don’t have that type of player. We have great midfield players who are all very similar. We could add something a little bit different. But that would only really be if it was a good price for us.”
