In an ironic turn of events – from a year ago – Loris Karius sent out a post-match message to his Liverpool teammates after the Champions League final against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
The German shot stopper was handed a start in goal for Liverpool as the club faced Real Madrid in the 2018 Champions League final.
Karius had already given his manager warning signs about his inability to be a reliable goalkeeper after a few hiccups on the road to the final in Kyiv.
However, he saved his worst show in a Liverpool shirt for the final as two awful blunders of his gifted Madrid the first and third goals in a harsh 3-1 defeat for the Reds last term.
A year later, his replacement, Alisson, produced a fantastic performance as he denied Tottenham on several ocassions to keep a cleansheet in the 2019 Champions League final.
It was an accomplishment that Karius could only have dreamt of and the German had an ironic mesage of congratulations for the Reds, a year after costing them the Champions League trophy.
Congrats, @LFC. Really happy for everyone at the club and fans. You deserved this.
