Prior to Liverpool’s trip to Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday, Man City boss Pep Guardiola rated the performance of the Reds in the midweek Champions League affair against Barcelona.
Liverpool’s reward for comfortably beating Porto in the quarterfinals of the Champions League was being handed the tough task of facing Barcelona in the next stage of the competition.
Jurgen Klopp has watched his side fight manfully to keep up with Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title this year and that is perhaps why his side went into the first leg of the Barca tie with some level of confidence over getting a positive result away from home.
The Reds showed their quality for much of the game at the Camp Nou but a stroke of luck went Barcelona’s way and the home side never looked back as they went on to win 3-0.
But even after that thumping defeat away in Spain, Pep Guardiola, who is in charge of Liverpool’s fierce Premier League title rivals Man City, gave a rave review about their display.
“I don’t think so.” Guardiola responded when asked if the loss to Barca would significantly affect the Reds.
“The game was incredibly good. Both sides were incredible.” the Man City boss said, as quoted by the Metro
“Liverpool were outstanding, i enjoyed watching it a lot. They fought a lot for this season and I think of course Newcastle is not easy but they will be well prepared.”
