Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has revealed a message he received from a fan about the title race earlier this year as Liverpool and Manchester City locked horns for the Premier League crown.
The Spaniard was in charge of a Liverpool team which was in sensational form in the 2008/09 campaign and pushed Manchester United all the way till the end for the league title.
That was the closest Benitez ever came to winning the title with Liverpool, a feat which would have ended several years of a long wait for a return to domestic glory for the Reds.
The former Liverpool boss faced questions about his interest in the Reds possibly winning the title last Friday, ahead of the Reds’ trip to Newcastle.
Benitez maintained a professional attitude ahead of the match which ended in a dramatic 3-2 victory for Jurgen Klopp’s side, but he did reveal one interesting thing though.
According to the Newcastle boss, a Liverpool fan wrote a thank you message for him in the snow after his side defeated Manchester City 2-1 back in January to hand Liverpool the advantage at the time.
“When we beat (Man) City it was snowing,” Benitez said, as per the Liverpool Echo
“And they (my friends) were in the car park and one of the fans wrote: ‘Ta Rafa’.
“It was (in) massive (writing). In the snow, in the street. They sent me the picture.”
