Report: Liverpool keen on £65m ace as sporting director confirms fresh offers

As per a claim by ABC Sevilla, Liverpool are very much interested in securing the services of Sevilla defender Diego Carlos, with the Spanish club’s sporting director Monchi sharing that enquiries have been received for the defender.

The South American appeared to be on the radar of the Reds back in January and El Desmarque have even suggested that Carlos was aware of Liverpool’s interest but he intended to stay in Spain until the summer at least.

In an interview with ABC, Sevilla sporting director Monchi has shared his thoughts on the current suspension caused by the Covid-19 virus outbreak as well as the interest which has been expressed in Carlos by other clubs.

“Right now, with the mess we have, I don’t think about whether they come calling or not. It is not something that has to occupy or worry us. There have been players who have performed at a very good level and we have said no to calls. It is not something that worries me,” Monchi said in response to clubs such as Liverpool being interested in Diego Carlos.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed an impressive 2019/20 season thus far, having started 22 games in the league, while averaging 4.8 clearances and an 83.4% pass-accuracy rate (Whoscored).

The recent Champions League exit for the Reds was a reminder of the strengthening that Liverpool might need at the back with a more reliable partner for Virgil van Dijk now required perhaps.

Carlos, who has a £65 million release clause, is likely to move on to a bigger club if his buyout clause is indeed triggered in the summer.
