Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has not covered himself in glory at all with his comments about Liverpool’s challenge for the title in the final few months of the season.
Liverpool began the season just looking to improve on last term where they reached the final of the Champions League and were harshly beaten by Real Madrid, courtesy of a pair of blunders from Loris Karius, who has been ditched by the manager ever since.
After the signing of Alisson from AS Roma, the Reds strengthened their defence significantly and that, added with the presence of Virgil van Dijk, saw Liverpool change their fortunes at the back.
Klopp’s men turned out to be the last team to lose a game in the Premier League this season, with their defeat at the Etihad stadium being their only loss in the league so far this year.
Having watched Liverpool sit at the top of the Premier League table for several months, Manchester City only recently took over after the Reds’ draws at Manchester United and Everton.
That is how City have ended up being only two points behind the leaders with a game in hand.
But their midfielder Gundogan still believes the Reds have actually enjoyed their luck to stay in the race.
“Liverpool are desperate to be champions,” he said, as per the Liverpool Echo
“They want to win the Premier League more than the Champions League.
“But everything is in our hands. I think we have played the better football. We were seven points behind them and then we went ahead of them.
“If we win our game in hand, we will go past them and be the leaders. We shouldn’t forget that.
“I think they have been very lucky in the past one or two months. They have scored a lot of late goals recently.
“Everything is in our hands. If we win the last six games then we will be champions.”
Doesn’t he realize, that to win championships you have to have a bit of luck. Winning those hard fought games are part and parcel of what a champion is. You can’t tell me, that Man. City haven’t been lucky throughout the year. They should never have won that fa cup game against Swansea. There’s a bit of luck for you and I’m sure there have been a few other games in the year, where they’ve road there luck too. I’m not knocking Man City. They’re a great team, but so are Liverpool. LIVERPOOL!!!! aren’t going away PAL!!!!!!!
Lisson have said it very well, i dont need to repeat to that but one thing for sure luck +ambitions+ hardwork and determination award success, that is why liverpool is still in the title race with mancity which because of their strength, depth and quality of their players aught to have their title bid unchallenged.
Mancity have spent and currently offers huge wages to world class players to have their title bid untouched but to their suprise liverpool is still in toe-toe race.
Mancity had their bit of luck and mistake from officials that also place them in this position.
