‘Today wasn’t his best game’: Slot admits this Liverpool star did not impress him on Sunday

Liverpool boss Arne Slot will not be too happy about his side’s failure to take all of the three points in Sunday’s important clash with fierce rivals Manchester United.

The Reds started the game without much urgency and they were punished early in the second half as United defender Martinez lashed home the opening goal from a tight angle.

Goals from Gakpo and Salah completed a quick turnaround for Liverpool only a few minutes after going behind as the home side looked on course to go eight points clear at the top of the Premier League.

However, another sluggish piece of defending from the Reds saw United snatch an equalizer through Diallo before Maguire’s shocking miss spared the hosts from defeat right at the end of the game.

It was a night which saw Trent Alexander-Arnold struggle to keep up with the opposition’s threat on the right flank.

And Liverpool boss Arne Slot has admitted that the England international, who has been persistently linked with a move to Real Madrid, had a game to forget on Sunday.

“Trent has played mostly very good games for the club. Today was not his best game but that had to do with them as well.” Slot said after the 2-2 draw

“Sometimes Ryan [Gravenberch] was not close enough to him so it was a two-on-one situation. I would put it more on the quality of [Diogo] Dalot and Bruno Fernandes.”
