Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Winks has suggested that his side deserved the trophy more than Liverpool after the defeat to the Reds in the final of the Champions League on Saturday.
Liverpool were able to come back from 3-0 down in the first leg of the tie against Barcelona by winning 4-0 at home in the second clash to secure a place in the final in remarkable fashion.
A day after the Reds’ memorable night at Anfield, Tottenham had a comeback of their own as three second half goals from Lucas Moura saw them win the tie against Ajax on away goals, just as they did against Premier League champions Manchester City in the previous round.
Those two second leg results saw Liverpool set up an all-English affair in the final of the Champions League in Madrid which took place on Saturday.
After suffering a 2-0 defeat to the Reds – where they hardly made any real threat out of their possession – Harry Winks stated after the game that Spurs were rather the side who deserved to win on another day.
“In my opinion, of course I’m biased, I believe we should have won but I’m so proud of everyone. It’s been an incredible run for us.” the Spurs star told their official club website
“We gave it a real go, created chances and on another day, we win. It’s an unfortunate one and all I can say is the way we recovered after the early penalty was fantastic. The character of this squad cannot be questioned.”
