‘Up there with best in the world’ – Thompson awestruck by one Liverpool player after Saturday

Former Liverpool player David Thompson had a lot of praise for left-back Andrew Robertson, after the Reds’ 3-2 triumph away at Newcastle United on Saturday.

When Jurgen Klopp moved to the club almost four years ago, one of the positions where the Reds did not have adequate quality was at left-back.

Alberto Moreno had been great going forward but he was desperately unreliable at the back and his defensive flaws were horribly exposed in the Europa League final against Sevilla in 2016.

The Liverpool manager then made a smart move to sign Andy Robertson after choosing to drop Moreno from the team while James Milner filled in at left-back for a certain period.

Robertson was one of the stars of the Liverpool team which went all the way to the final of the Champions League last season where they succumbed to a loss against Real Madrid.

The defender has continued his great form again this year, winning praise from David Thompson for his performance against Newcastle over the weekend.
