Towards the end of last season, injury worries for star goalscorers Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino made Jurgen Klopp realize his squad might be short of a serious goal threat on the bench, even though Divock Origi stepped in and proved to be useful.
The Liverpool boss might entertain the idea of securing another striker to bolster his attack, with another title contest against Manchester City expected to take place next campaign.
Klopp has been linked with a move to sign Kylian Mbappe from PSG (Mirror), as the youngster continues to attract suitors following a remarkable breakthrough so early in his career.
Sky Sports pundit Danny Mills has shared his views on the prospect of Jurgen Klopp landing a marquee signing in Mbappe this summer, after all of the speculation surrounding the young striker’s future.
Mills has wowed about the France international’s quality as a goalscorer but he insists the price of Mbappe could be what drives away Liverpool from a deal.
“Mbappe is clearly an immense talent, but what’s Mbappe going to cost you?” Mills told Football Insider.
“Wow, realistically, £200million, maybe more. Are Liverpool really going to pay that amount for Kylian Mbappe? I know he’s very, very young but I don’t see that happening, certainly not at that price?
“I don’t think they need a marquee signing but I certainly think they have to spend because if you stand still you go backwards. Klopp has come out and said we need to spend some money to move on and go to the next level.
“They’ve still got to beyond Manchester City to rip that first title for 30 years away from them. If you want to move forward, they’ve got to add two or three quality squad players.”
